Our Positions

With healthy and strong competition we ensure at all times the adequacy of power generation and pave the way for the energy transition.

1

A free and competitive electricity market is the most effective way for Greek consumers to have lower electricity prices during the energy transition.

2

Ensuring equal access for all market participants to all available energy resources (i.e. including water resources).

3

The electricity market in Greece must be accompanied by a market for available electricity capacity. The revision of the European Regulation 2019/943 stipulates that available power markets are no longer temporary or a last resort for security of supply. Especially in Greece, the new available power market will also act as a shield for consumers against seasonal price increases in the wholesale market, since it will include a cap on the revenue per MW from the sale of energy for those generation/storage units that conclude an available power contract with IPTO (Independent Power Transmission Operator).

4

A key prerequisite for the success of the energy transition is the strengthening and upgrading of the electricity system infrastructure. Electricity grids, smart systems, storage facilities, interconnections – especially with Central Europe – must be implemented on time and be adequate.

5

The power generation sector in the European Union, and in Greece, will achieve net zero (or almost net zero) earlier than the other sectors of the economy and well before 2050, i.e. in the early 2040s.

6

The imposition of a special tax on energy products increases costs and prices in the Greek wholesale market, resulting in increased electricity prices for consumers. It is a vicious circle without effect.

The member-companies of HAIPP have implemented the largest overall investments in power generation in Greece in recent years and are actively contributing to the formation of a truly liberalized electricity market for the benefit of consumers and the national economy.
