HERON has been actively involved in the fields of electricity generation and supply since 2004. GEK TERNA S.A. Group owns HERON, with 100% participation.
HERON’s Combined Cycle Thermoelectric Station (CCGT) has a capacity of 442 MW and is located 4 km south of the city of Thiva in the Viotia region. The site lies adjacent to the old Thiva-Elefsina National Road, in a semi-rural industrial area at an altitude of approximate 295 meters. The site is located near both the natural gas transmission and the high-voltage transmission systems, operating at 150 and 400 kV.
This facility is one of the most modern and technologically advanced power plants in the energy production sector. The station’s efficiency ranks it at the top of technological performance. Its high efficiency implies reduced fuel consumption and, consequently, lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, making this power plant one of the most environmentally friendly electricity generation units, second only to renewable energy sources. Construction of the station began in 2007 and was successfully completed in 2010 by TERNA S.A. (EPC), when the plant commenced commercial operation.
Starting in 2025, HERON will be a major energy off-taker of the production of the new 880 MW ultra-efficient (63%) Komotini CCGT co-owned by GEK TERNA and Motor Oil.

KORINTHOS POWER S.A. shareholders are PROTERGIA (65%) and MOTOR OIL (35%).
KORINTHOS POWER owns and operates a Gas-fired Combined Cycle Thermal Plant of 436 MW in Agioi Theodoroi, Korinthia. Engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the plant, including the GIS substation, have been carried out by METKA SA -METLEN Energy & Metals. The plant entered commercial operation in April 2012.
The company has been certified and implements: Quality Management System according to EN ISO 9001:2008, Environmental Management System according to EN ISO 14001:2004 and Health and Safety Management System according to OHSAS 18001:2007.
